The dismissal of the first American to manage in the Premier League has come as welcome news to most fans but I think celebrations may be short lived. The Swans rise was down to long term planning, our fall due to short-term bodged-jobs: I would be amazed if whoever we bring in is still in charge next Christmas!
Who in their right mind would want the Swans job right now? It was once a seat which was perfect for any ambitious young manager to step onto the big stage. Martinez, Sousa, Brendan, Laudrup and Monk all improved their CV while at SA1 but the last eighteen months has seen the clubs reputation diminish beyond recognition.
The new owners have sacked 2 managers in the 6 months that they have been here, we sit bottom of the Premier League, supporters trust and board, Chairman & ex-board are at war and there is real hostility in the crowd.
This is a poisonous job for any first-time manager looking for a stepping stone to a bigger club so we can forget the likes of Ryan Giggs, Lampard and Gerrard. They are going to want time to build a team, squad and reputation; we used to be perfect but our recent form shows that we aren’t the place for that anymore.
Our realistic search will be for an ‘experienced’ manager who has tried and failed at the big clubs and will never have another chance, someone looking for a job partly because of the money and partly because they are bored of their wife and they miss football. Pardew, Hoddle, Hodgson, Rednapp, Roy Keane, you know the ones……..
January transfer window opening…….Let’s be honest, it is all fucking exciting! Completely mental but it’s definitely not boring… what will happen next…..
